Rep. Jones posted a proposed amendment to Fitzenhagen’s bill
which would place a ½ credit in Financial Literacy as a graduation
requirement, reducing the number of electives to 7 ½. Rep. Fitzenhagen’s
bill required the course be offered as an elective option.
The Senate, earlier this week, amended the ½ credit for
Financial Literacy into HB 7055( the House Education train) along with some
other issues.
We have 2 1/2 weeks left in the session, hopefully.
No conference conferees have been appointed nor has a
conference schedule been published. The “conference” is when the House and
Senate sit down to negotiate the final budget which must be voted off the floor
by both the House and Senate. The Session is scheduled to end March 9th.
There is a 72 hour (3 day) cooling off period before the final vote can be
taken. The only constitutional requirement of the Legislature is to pass a
balanced budget.
